"What does the unit MPY stand for?"

Question:

"I am composing a list of chemical compatibilities for Monel. While in my search I have come across a unit that I am unsure of. Can any one tell me what the unit MPY stands for? It is a measurement of corrosion. I think that it might be Milli-inch per year?!? but I need to be sure."

Answer:

The term MPY stands for "Mils per year". Equivalent to thousands of an inch per year. Therefore, 10 mpy = 0.010".
