Technical Frequently Asked Questions

"Naphtenic acid corrosion"

Question:

"We are begining to run a crude called KUITO with a 2.2 TAN theroretical. and 2.7 real. Our slate will be impacted whit no more than 20% of it. We installed a set of corrosion probes and are ready to inyect inhibitors as needed. My question is : does anyone have experience in running this type of crudes up to now ?. If so, plese send me a short comment about unexpected corrosion and place to find it (I would mean, the stream to monitor for metal loss) "

Answer:

Nalco/Exxon Energy Chemicals, Betz-Dearborn and Baker Petrolite are providers of corrosion inhibitors for naphthenic acid corrosion. They have a database of most of the crude oils around the world with their corrosion properties in the distillation units. Contact them and try to get an assessment of the Kuito crude.
